The fact that the Hubble telescope -- and all of its successors -- allow us to look farther and farther away also means that they allow us to look further and further back into the dawn of time and the origins of our universe. Discoveries emerging from these abilities cannot help but reshape our basic understanding not just of our own planet and its solar system, or our galaxy, but also potentially of the philosophical and spiritual aspects of creation.
