Plausibility vs. Provocation:Designing Accessible Futures Research
Finnish Society for Futures Studies
These slides were prepared for an afternoon colloquium of the Finnish Society for Futures Studies, the topic of which was the initiation of Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) activities as a new node of the UNUís Millennium Project. Having just completed six months as a Fulbright Researcher/Lecturer with the FFRC, and as a Fellow of the World Futures Studies Federation, I was asked to focus on the need for futures learning in connection with Millennium Project activities: that is, disseminating the awareness of futures studies and foresight to a wider population, as well as the concepts and tools of futures research.
Given Finlandís reputation as a culture of design genius, I took that as the focus of the presentation: how do we design activities in futures studies to make them more accessible to more people, more communities, organizations, businesses, and public agencies?
